A1 at Eye Water Bridge

25 February 2020

Essential Maintenance

Improvement works to provide new expansion joints on the A1 at Eye Water Bridge will take place, between 9.00am and 5.00pm, each day, from Wednesday 26th February until Friday 28th February 2020.

This scheme, with a value of £14,000, will benefit around 7,000 vehicles using this section of the A1 each day, by improving the condition of the bridge, and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

Day works will be undertaken using alternate lane closures on the A1 carriageway, using temporary traffic lights and a convoy system.

The scheme also requires a full night time closure of the A1 at this location, on Tuesday 25th February, between 8pm and 6am, with a signed diversion route in operation.

Northbound traffic on the A1 will exit at the Berwick Bypass onto the A6105 Duns Road. At Duns, traffic will join the A6112 at Castle Street and will re-join the A1 northbound at Granthouse.

Southbound traffic will follow the same diversion in the opposite direction.

This scheme has been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, the emergency services and Scottish Borders Council.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
