A702 Silverburn

26 March 2020

Overnight and Weekend Maintenance

ESSENTIAL MAINTENANCE ON THE A702 COMMENCES THURSDAY 26TH MARCH

Essential maintenance works will take place on the A702 at Silverburn from Thursday 26th March until Wednesday 1st April 2020.

The works will benefit over 6,000 vehicles using this section of the A702 each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

To allow this scheme to take place there will be a full closure of the A702 northbound and southbound carriageways with a signed diversion route in operation. An overnight closure at this location will take place between 8pm on Thursday 26th March and 6am on Friday 27th March 2020. The road will reopen throughout the day until 8pm when a full weekend closure will be in effect. The A702 will then reopen to traffic at 6am on Monday 30th March 2020 with two further overnight closures required (8pm - 6am) on Monday and Tuesday evening. Work will be completed by 6am on the morning of Wednesday 1st April 2020. Please be aware that there may be potential disruption to the following Stagecoach Bus services: 101, 101A, 101S, 102, and 102S. Customers should consult with Stagecoach for further information.

Northbound traffic will be instructed to exit the A702 via a right turn onto the A766, north of Ninemileburn and will proceed on this route through Penicuik. Traffic will be instructed to take a left turn onto the A701 and at Gowkley Moss Roundabout, will take the second exit to remain on the route. At the traffic lights, traffic will turn left to join the A703 and will continue for approximately 2 miles before being able to rejoin the A702 at Hillend.

Southbound traffic will follow the same diversion route but in the opposite direction. Local traffic arriving via Easter Howgate will be directed to turn left onto Bush Loan Road before joining the signed diversion route.

This scheme has been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, the emergency services, Stagecoach, and Midlothian Council.
