A720 from Gogar to Hermiston

18 November 2019

Overnight Maintenance

IMPROVEMENT WORK ON THE A720 GOGAR TO HERMISTON COMMENCES 18th NOVEMBER

Essential maintenance to improve the eastbound A720 from Gogar to Hermiston will take place between 8pm and 6am, each night from Monday 18th November until Saturday 23rd November 2019.

This work, with a combined value of £295,000, will benefit around 14,000 vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and associated verges, reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

The scheme requires a full night-time closure of the A720 eastbound from Gogar to Calder, with a signed diversion route in operation. Access to Hermiston Gait Retail Park will be maintained through the works from the A720 westbound, M8 or Cultins Road.

Eastbound A720 Diversion

Eastbound traffic from A8 Glasgow Road will exit Gogar Roundabout onto South Gyle Broadway and follow the sign for South Gyle Industrial Estate to South Gyle Broadway. From here, vehicles will follow signs for City Centre B701 and continue to Sighthill Roundabout and exit onto Calder Road. Diverted traffic will use the A71 to re-join the eastbound A720 at Calder Road Roundabout.

Eastbound M8 Diversion

Eastbound traffic on the M8 intending to join the eastbound A720 will exit at Hermiston Gait and travel via the A71 to Calder Road Roundabout, where they will re-join the eastbound A720.

The westbound A720 will operate as normal while the work is taking place.
