Swanston Road bridge maintenance: 3-6 August
3 August 2020
Transport Scotland and Amey fully recognise the importance of a safe and reliable trunk road network, particularly during the Covid-19 outbreak, and it is vital that essential maintenance works are carried out in order to maintain the integrity and safety of these routes. A number of maintenance projects have been identified as essential and will be prioritised over the coming weeks.
SWANSTON ROAD BRIDGE MAINTENANCE: 3-6 AUGUST
Traffic on Swanston Road in Edinburgh will be controlled by temporary traffic lights between the hours of 09:30 and 16:00 on 3, 4, 5 and 6 August.
This is to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company Amey to replace expansion joints in the bridge over the A720 Edinburgh City Bypass.
Traffic using the main carriageway of the A720 will not be affected by these works.
These essential works, with a value of £12,000, will improve the ride quality for motorists and make the structure watertight, preventing more disruptive repairs being required.
The scheme has been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, the emergency services and City of Edinburgh Council.
The safety of workers remains a top priority during this essential maintenance project. Physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government guidance, will be in place to ensure all on-site personnel remain safe throughout the duration of the project. Thorough risk assessments will be carried out and cleansing stations will be implemented on site.
Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable. For the current status of all road schemes please visit our website: http://scottishtrunkroadsse.amey.co.uk/current-works/
