A8 to M8 westbound at Newbridge Roundabout
22 July 2019
INSTALLATION OF COMMUNICATIONS CABLING TO COMMENCE MONDAY 22nd JULY 2019
Essential maintenance work to install new copper communications cable on the slip road from A8 to M8 westbound at Newbridge Roundabout will take place from 8pm to 6am nightly from Monday 22nd July to Saturday 27th July.
This work will ensure the continued safe and reliable operation of the network at this location, benefitting around 22,000 vehicles using this route each day, by providing improved road traffic information and introducing new technology.
This work requires full overnight closures of the slip road from 8pm to 6am nightly from Monday 22nd July to Saturday 27th July.
Daytime hard-shoulder closures will also take place from 09.30 until 3.30pm daily, from Monday 22nd July until Friday 26th July.
This work has been co-ordinated with STRU SE work to minimise the duration of the impact on the network. Due to the nature of these combined works the diversion routes for traffic from the A8 have been agreed as follows;
- Access to M8 eastbound and westbound from A8 will be unavailable during the overnight cabling works. The diversion for westbound traffic from the A8 will be to take the A89 exit from Jct 2, Newbridge Roundabout, head westbound on A89 then A899 before returning to M8 westbound at Jct 3 where the diversion will end.
- The diversion for any traffic wishing to travel eastbound from the A8 will be to travel right round Newbridge Roundabout, take the exit for A8 Glasgow Road, travel eastbound to Gogar Roundabout before heading south onto A720 where the diversion will end.
This work has been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, the emergency services and City of Edinburgh Council.
