AMEY HOSTS WOMEN@AMEY EVENT IN SCOTLAND TO CELEBRATE AND INSPIRE FEMALE WORKFORCE
Amey, one of the UK’s leading infrastructure providers, hosted a Women@Amey event in Scotland on Friday 8th March 2019. The event recognised Amey’s commitment to attracting and retaining women in its teams, by creating equality in under-represented careers like engineering.

The Scottish Women@Amey event, held at the thestudio conference centre in Glasgow, was an opportunity to celebrate International Womens Day and the 2019 theme of #Balanceforbetter through the sharing of stories, networking opportunities and workshops focused on career progression and personal development.
To assist with this, the company is looking to extend flexible working to support employees with families; and a range of activities designed to tackle barriers and stereotypes surrounding the type of jobs available to women in the industry. The group is also reaching out to schools, colleges and universities to encourage more women and girls into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) careers. In partnership with Girlguiding, an Amey Engineering Badge was launched, which has since been requested by over 150,000 Girl Guides.
Speakers at the event included Hazel McDonald, Chief Bridge Engineer, Transport Scotland; James Haluch Managing Director, Amey Highways, and Nicole Paterson, Head of Environmental Assets, North Lanarkshire Council.
The day consisted of a series of showcases, of inspirational female employees; workshops on how to grow and develop a career with Amey, coaching sessions and networking opportunities.
James Haluch said: “Amey already has many inspirational women working at all levels of the business, but we appreciate that there is more work to be done to create equal representation. Our networking group - Women@Amey – is a powerful initiative to ensure that we continue to attract, develop, promote and encourage more women into our business.”
